Carrington Gardens, Providence, RI
Standing as one of the great Federal Style architectural monuments in Providence, Rhode Island, the Carrington House necessitated a series of gardens to fuse it to the ground and provide beautiful outdoor spaces for the owners. The gardens were developed as a series of green rooms that wrap around the house. There are gardens designed for summer and winter use – for example, a summer pergola terrace combines custom crafted curved bricks to match the adjacent original stable building.
Weighty English cisterns are recycled as fountains and planting beds for year round floral displays. Other water features include a meandering rill to an oval pond and a circular stone fountain and terrace edged with delicate miniature English boxwood, hollies and a host of other evergreens.
